Europe plans tightes controls on breast implants 

I have a very strong concern for the estrogenicity of the chemical contents in silicone breast implants. My concern comes from the 1975 Copenhagen Study where estrogenic effects of 2,6-cis-Diphenylhexamethylcyclotetrasiloxane, which was documented in rabbits,dogs, monkeys, rats, and men with end-stage prostate cancer. This study also showed that in rats, 2,6-cis-D---"Obviously passed the placental barrier, a fact to which special attention should be paid.

(2001) I see women on a daily basis who have multiple concerns for the contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, or antibiotic I prescribe, but would never question their plastic surgeons in regard to their breast implants. These women deserve to know the truth about all the multiple medical aspects of breast implants, whether it is systemic, local, or second generational. My prayer for each of you on this Committee is that you will bring your expertise and wealth of knowledge together to create a breakthrough that will positively impact the health of women who have, who have had, and who are considering silicone and saline breast implants.

CANDO;  Platinum Research Project for Women with Breast Implants and their Offspring

A complex platinum salt, hexachloroplatinate, has been used in silicone gel-filled breast implants as a catalyst in both the gel and envelope. Platinum salt exposure has been associated with a range of problems, from positive skin-patch tests (indicating an allergic reaction) and contact dermatitis, to more serious problems such as asthma, immunogenicity, inhibitory effects on brain enzymes (brain damage), neurotoxicity (nerve damage), mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, and allergic anaphylactic reactions.

In siliconen implantaten zitten vloeibare vluchtige siloxanen, zoals D4 octamethylcyclotetrasiloxaan en D5 decamethylcyclopentasiloxaan

Bij het van de markt halen van de implantaten door de FDA in 1992, werden de hoge dosering van ca 855 parts per million D4 en D5 onveilig genoemd. Bij het weer op de markt brengen van de implantaten in 2006, moest deze hoeveelheid teruggebracht worden tot maximaal 69 ppm. Dat betekent dat vrouwen met implantaten van vóór 2006 langdurig zijn blootgesteld aan veel te hoge dosering D4 en D5.

Volgens onderzoeken zijn de risico’s van D4 en D5:

• Auto-immuunreacties

• Fenobarbital-achtige reacties in lever van ratten.

• Zwak oestrogene werking

• Verandering vrouwelijke voortplantingsorganen van ratten

• D4 aangetoond in hersenen, longen, klieren, vetweefsel

• Siloxanen en platina lekken in omliggend weefsel.
